Kolkata: Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has been asked to appear before CBI and help in the investigations but he would not be arrested. Apart from that Rajiv Kumar will also have to appear before the Supreme Court on 20th February.
CBI in its affidavit to the Supreme Court today submitted that the Kolkata Police tried to shield the companies from the Sarada Chit Fund Scam Investigations who gave donations to the Trinamool Congress.
They tried to subvert the investigations and was actively supporting the accused. The role of Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is also being investigated while he was the SIT chief.
The affidavit also says that SIT under Rajiv Kumar tampered, doctored and the material evidence were destroyed.
The CBI has also said in the affidavit that several evidences were erased from the Prime Accused Sudipto Sen's cell phone and computer, by SIT under Rajiv Kumar.
Mamata just after the SC directive, says: "she is thankful to the SC for staying the arrest of Rajiv Kumar. Its a constitutional breakdown. We welcome the SC directive. Our cases is very strong and we never said we will not co operate".
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerji is back with the basics. Where her run began to the coveted post of Chief Ministership during the Singur Episode. Staging a dharna for Bannerji, is a signal of her quest to get to a higher position in Indian Politics.
So this time the stage was set by none other than the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) through their misadventure. The central government would have never thought in their dreams that the investigation of CBI will turn to be a show of power by the Chief Minister Bannerji, known for taking the maximum advantage of adverse situations. May it be Singur, Nandigram or the recent 'Show of Power' in Kolkata.
The protest which was initially meant to be 'just a protest' against the alleged 'high handedness' of CBI, turned to be one of the post important political convergence of politicians from all over the country. Anti BJP parties were waiting for such an opportunity from a very long time. This time they got it through Mamata, yet again.
So the Mayawatis' or Gandhis' who were looking for an opportunity to cash on, did not had their say this time. Mamata whiteswashed the show and proved that she is the leader whom even leaders can look forward to in the national arena. While the Gandhis and Mayawati, the other front runners, were restricted to just press conferences and public meetings to criticise the BJP Government, Mamata single handedly showed what on ground politics means.
When did India see that a Chief Minister sitting on a Dharna protesting an investigation into an alleged financial Scam? When did India see a Dharna by a CM against a police official? Instead of questioning the conduct of Bengal Police how can a CM protest CBI officials investigation?
More drama is forthcoming as Mamata is in no mood to retract. The entire state machinery is busy in safeguarding a Police Commissoner, who allegedly stalled a chit fund scam investigations, for the reasons best known to them and the politicians from all over the country are supporting this move of the Trinamool Government, again for the reasons best known to them.
