New Delhi: The Indian Media in the last 5 years have never shown the courage to question the elected representatives. Instead they became their mouthpiece. Be it television or print, no media house have dared to ask direct questions to the Parliamentarians leave alone the Prime Minister who did not even had the courage to face a single press conference.
All the media interviews in the last 5 years have been managed, scripted well in advance. Specially after the utter disgraceful interview of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Arnab Goswami where the Nation wants to know Man' suddenly showed his puppetry excellence and swung from one scripted, diluted question to another.
In the last 20 years of journalism in print, electronic and online media platforms, I have never seen such a polluted media. Where instead of asking questions, the anchors and reporters have become boot licking journalists.
Surfing one channel to another, on television, how many of us have come across matters of national importance being discussed? How many of us have seen ministers and politicians taking direct questions on the issues which are directly related to the people? Instead what we see is a bro haha on plethora of non issues like mob lynching, Muslims, Nehru, Ali, Bajrang Bali, Rahul Hugging, Masjid, Mandir, and the list goes on.
The media has also divided rapes. Hindu rapes and muslim rapes. There is a competition amongst channels to communalise rapes as well.
With most of the channels and newspapers now owned by corporates, no body dares to question the authority. The dare devil journalists have become puppets and those who defy the rules set, are termed as Anti National Journalists. Either they are shown the door or they are compelled to flip sides.
There are a few journalists who are working against the tide. Hats off to them. Ravish Kumar, Punya Prasoon Bajpai, Abhisar Sharma, Arfa Khanum are a few names which can be mentioned without giving a second thought.
Even the election coverages are full of supportive stories to the present government. Almost no channel is interested to ask pertinent questions related to the non fulfilment of promises made in the 2014 manifesto. The Prime Minister who started his election campaign with a Chaiwala promotion after five year, passed through a transition process to become a Chowkidar in the election campaigns. In middle came the Faqueer, Jhola Wala types of discussions. This transition has been only possible due to the media. But no body dared to question the transition. Never ever it was questioned that does India voted for a Chowkidar or a Prime Minister?
The World Index too says the same thing. But these shameless bootlicking media houses and journalists aren't ashamed of themselves.
