Surat: Unable to bear the undercurrent in this election season, it seems that the lower BJP cadres are not letting any stone unturned to keep their higher ups happy. This time the BJP members are on a new low to appease their masters.
BJP leaders have raked up a major controversy by
printing party’s slogan, ‘Sau No Saath Sau No Vikas’, on the bottom of
the cheques that have been issued to tens of thousands of account holders of
the 110-year-old India’s first green cooperative bank, the Surat District
Cooperative Bank.
The account holders of Gujarat’s second largest
cooperative bank after the Ahmedabad District Cooperative bank along with
cooperative leaders in the district have raised serious objection and are
demanding the removal of the slogan with immediate effect. They have threatened
to boycott use of these cheques for financial transactions if their demand is
not met.
If the sources are to be believed, the bank has more
than 9 lakh account holders in the district with majority of them being
farmers.
The bank has a fixed deposit to the tune of over Rs.
5000 crore.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani inaugurated the
newly built headquarters of the bank which is operational since 1909 the bank
is the first among 370 district banks across India and
18 in Gujarat to give its headquarter in the diamond city’s Majura Gate, a
green makeover.
Member of Surat District cooperative bank and independent
councillor of Surat district panchayat, Darshan Naik says:” “The oldest cooperative bank
of Gujarat is not owned by any party or any individual. The bank belongs to all
its account holders and members. The BJP leaders holding key position
in the bank are literally misusing the platform to gain political
mileage.”
“A petition has been filed with the Election Commission of India
for the violation of the model code of conduct by the BJP leaders for
influencing the account holders by printing its slogan on the cheques,” he
said.
Vice president of Gujarat Khedut Samaj, Jayesh Delad
(Patel) said, “The Surat district bank is not the entity of BJP. Today
they have written their slogan, tomorrow they will print pictures of PM
Modi and BJP President Amit Shah on the cheque books! Majority of the farmers
who are members and account holders are irked with the move by the bank’s
authorities.”
Managing director of Surat District bank, Indrajit
Mahida said that he is on a tour of London at present and will check
the matter only after he returns to Surat.
