Surat: It seems that the Gujarat government departments has not learnt lessons from the past fire accident which took the life of 22 children in the city recently. Despite an eye wash of taking the tragic Surat Fire Incident seriously, several government departments have started to hand over notices and raiding premises. Some of the buildings are said to be sealed now.
But the actual position is quite different on ground. An Investigation conducted on the very next day and the third day of the tragic fire incident in Surat, portrays a very grim picture.
Utter callousness of the government departments has left several famous commercial buildings of Surat open to such fire incidents in future. Not only private buildings even government buildings and city road buses in the city do not have proper arrangements in case of any untoward incident due to fire.
Most of the buildings don't have a proper evacuation plan in case of fire, there are inadequate fire fighting arrangements, fire extingushers are either expired or have never been refilled. Even the Surat Municipal Corporation owned city buses has insufficient arrangements. The fire extinguishers in the buses which are mandatory to be kept at proper place and in view of the public so that they can be used by the common people in case of fire. But on a fack check, it was found that either the fire extinguishers have been lying with the driver or there are no extinguishers at all.
Watch the entire Investigative Documentary for a first hand view of the findings.
The entire Undercover Operation has been shot on the second and third day of the Takshashila Arcade fire incident in which 22 children lost their lives of which 16 were girls. Several of them had their examination result declared on the very next day of the fire incident. Many of whom lost their lives passed their examinations with flying colours. This shook us. That's why we decided to do a reality check on the actual condition on ground.
This is not the story of Surat alone. This is the usual practise in all districts, cities and even metropolitan (these days Smart city and Surat was the front runner in the race of Smart city where 22 children died due to Fire a fire fighting arrangements of the Government fire department was shamefully inadequate).
These buildings shown in the sting do not stand alone in Surat. There are thousands others. These buildings which have been covered under the investigations just to present the real picture representing thousands of others in the 'Smart City'. Even there are government buildings which flout all rules and regulations of the Government.
Hope this documentary done in Public Interest change the system for the better all over India.
