A former Fellow Allahabadi and Journalist who has turned into a hotelier, Sanjay Paul, recently complained regarding food quality and its presentation by one of the best restaurants of Allahabad El Chico through a social media post. The post was then shared on the Civil Lines Nostalgic Memories Facebook page.
According to Sanjay Paul, The Elchico Restaurant situated on the busy Mahatama Gandhi Marg Civil Lines has been an icon of the city this restaurant was at one time one of the best in Allahabad. Paul had memories of it which dragged him to it on his visit to the town on 7th Feb 2020.
He ordered his favourite noodles thinking of the smell that was sheer nostalgia one veg noodles for his wife and one non veg for himself. But according to Paul, it was pathetic. Firstly it came served in a platter and not a bowl. The presentation to taste was enough to put one off. He claimed through the post that the place has literally run down and at a low ebb now.
On top of it after eating a tid bit of the serving himself and his wife were really disappointed and disgusted. To top it all, returning to their hotel by evening his wife developed a bout of food poisoning resulting in undigested noodles vomiting and severe loose motions and stomach cramps.
Self medication did not work and she had to be rushed to Nazareth hospital for treatment.Where she was administered treatment intravenously. According to Paul, their holidays went for a toss, after they had planned to visit some of the nostalgic places they remembered after 10 years of leaving this beautiful city. Bad experience.
According to Paul, the co owner of the place, Naresh Roy called him on phone and was apologetic for the same. The team El Chico, according to Paul, need retrospection as to what has gone wrong in one of the best joints of Allahabad.
However after posting a review on google and also on Facebook tagging Naresh Roy, he apologized.
"However his cronies in Allahabad from the Allahabad Nostalgic memories Facebook page started trolling me and the victim for no rhyme or reason', claims Sanjay Paul. Moreover, the post on social media group Civil Lines Nostalgic Memories was removed by the admins to 'please' the restaurants for reasons unknown.
It may be mentioned here that he was not alone, on the post on Civil Lines Nostaslgic Memories, several people came forward with their share of complaints against the food outlet. But they too, like Paul, were trolled.
It seems that the restaurant is not open to ideas or criticism. Mishaps may happen but shooting the messenger is uncalled for.
